Hacking Windstream Install for OS X and Failing
Posted by Robert on the 16th of September, 2008 at 12:33 AM GMT0. Permalink.Tags: DSL, Geek, Internet, Internet Explorer, JavaScript, Personal, Windstream
I signed up with Windstream for Internet and phone. It turns out that they do not support Mac OS X at all because they only support Internet Explorer. The only justification I've found for this is that their crack team of developers doesn't know how to use document.createElement and they need to install an ActiveX Control to see how much hard disk space and ram is installed on the computer. Both reasons are totally stupid.

Shameless Plug

Over the past several weeks, I've been working on a little project. I registered the domain several years ago, but it was only recently that I finally coded enough of a library to make pumping out a site idea fairly painlessly. I just launched the site today, so there isn't any real content. However, I plan on posting at least twice this week, then on a close to weekly basis after that. The site is: VodkaBuzz.

PVR Project Updates

Saturday, I got motivated to work on my PVR project that I put aside while I was re-writing this site. While a bottle of vodka makes using a Dremel more interesting, it doesn't improve straight-line cutting ability. I'm happy with the direction it is going.

The New Robertdot And Driving
Posted by Robert on the 14th of May, 2006 at 1:17 AM GMT0. Permalink.Tags: Driving, Personal
Tammy and I have a new weekend ritual. Basically, Tammy goes out Friday night, parties, and leaves her car somewhere and catches a ride home with someone sober. Saturday, whenever I wake up, she takes me to lunch then we go pick up her car. Last week it was in Hermosa Beach, which was a bit of a drive. This time it was in Hollywood, which wasn't so bad.

Grape Juice, Pizza, Moulin Rouge Encino

It's Friday, and I'm at home. I didn't plan to be. I didn't want to write this post. But I have to because of my car. When I left the house, I got in my car, put in the key, turned it... tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. What the fuck? I was using the valet key. I said in my hoarse voice, Why the fuck have a valet key if it won't crank the car?
I get my other key out. tick tick tick tick tick tick tick tick. Something is wrong. I turn off all the lights, turn off the radio and air conditioner. tick tick tick tick tick tick. Fuck. I guess the battery is dead, but go ask one of the other mods on RX8Club. He says it is the battery. I've never had a battery go dead and not try to start and have the lights running at normal levels. Normally, the lights will fade while the engine tries really hard to turn over. Oh, well. That means I can't leave. I'm pissed.

Near Misses, AJAX, And Accessibility

There is nothing like starting my day by looking over my shoulder to see a green Jeep (1990-1996), tires squealing, sliding towards me. My natural reflexes propelled my body quickly to the other corner despite my brain knowing that the Jeep would come to a stop well before it collided with me. The guy in the Jeep wasn't so sure. I just kept walking. It wasn't the first time I'd almost gotten hit, and it wasn't the closest. It was the loudest. I looked back after I had walked twenty or thirty feet and couldn't tell if the guy in the Jeep was pissed or shaken. He was still sitting there. That means something.
